PLEASE NOTE
The Club operates a car sharing system, see meeting points and
departure time for walks. Please turn up 10 minutes before the departure time.
If you don't have your own transport you should contact the leader three days in
advance. Note that there may not be anybody at the any of the Meeting Points. It
is therefore important if you think that the leader may not be present to
contact him or her in advance.
For all day walks (except those with pub
lunches) bring food and drink. Boots are essential for mountain and strenuous
walks.
The leader has the right to refuse to allow members or potential
members from taking part if, in his or her opinion, they are inadequately
dressed or do not have suitable footwear.
Grading
of Walks
Grading of walks is both difficult and subjective. These
grade definitions are for guidance only. If in any doubt contact the leader of
the walk for further information.
Easy - Pastoral and usually less than 8
miles/12.8kms. They do not involve any steep climbing but gentle ascents might
be included. Easy walks of less than 4 miles/6.4kms are within the capabilities
of most people and are usually taken at a slow pace. The longer walks need a
slightly greater degree of fitness but should also be within the capabilities of
most people. Several stiles may be encountered on these walks. Equipment
required are waterproofs and lightweight boots or shoes with a good sole. A
packed lunch is essential on walks of over 6
miles/9.6kms unless it is
planned to take lunch in a pub or café. A drink however should always be
carried.
Moderate - Walks of more than 9
miles/14.4kms, although can be less if this involves climbing. Total ascents
during the walk will generally be less than 1,000 feet/300m. Equipment as for
easy walks a packed lunch and drink are essential.
Moderate Mountain -
These walks involve at least 1,000 feet/300m of climbing but less than 2,000
feet/600m. They are usually on terrain that is more exposed than the easy walks.
Spare clothing and good quality waterproofs and boots, together with a packed
lunch and drink, are essential.
Duty of Care
Leaders and members owe a duty of care to all the other members of the group.
Members participating in walks do so at their own risk.
Members are expected to be appropriately dressed and prepared for the walk. If
the leader believes that someone is inadequately dressed or prepared then s/he
has the right to refuse to allow the member on the walk.
Members are advised
to carry their own personal first aid kit, whistle and where appropriate
survival equipment. They should also make the leader aware of any medical
condition and any implications that could cause problems during the walk.
The
leader can question the fitness of any member wishing to attempt the walk and
can decline to accept him/her on the walk.
Leaders
Club walks are led by volunteer members who may or may not have received leader
training. They are expected to be appropriately dressed and prepared for the
walk which they are leading. They are not however expected to carry any
specialised equipment.
Walks leaders may not have had any first aid training. Leaders (and members) are
advised to carry a first aid kit but it is not a condition of leading a walk.
For Health and Safety reasons leaders have the right to cancel a walk if three
or less people turn up at the meeting point and the leader has not received
notification from anyone else that they will be going directly to the start or,
if appropriate, Junction 29 or Northop.
Note some walks contain Post Codes for the Start of the walk. These should be treated as a guide and with caution. Some Post Codes cover very large areas. If in doubt phone the leader.

We park
in the car park just as you enter Llangollen in time to catch the T3 Traws Cymru
service at 0930 which will take us to Cynwyd to pick up the North Berwyn Way.
The start is uphill along the minor road until we meet the forest. Then it’s
across moorland towards Moel Fferna from where the walk levels out along a broad
track to Vivod mountain. From there
it’s a long descent back to Llangollen where refreshments of all kinds will be
available. No dogs. Lawrence will be
at Northop for car sharing and or car convoying.
Don’t forget your bus pass if fortunate to have one.
