The descriptions of the walks are for guidance only. Distances and indications to height are only estimates and are believed to be correct at the time of publication. The grading of walks is also subjective. The leader reserves the right to amend walks in the light of further information. If in any doubt as to the suitability of the walk, please contact the leader a few days beforehand.
Participants should remember that there is an element of risk on any walk, and every care should be taken at all times. Participation in walks is at your own risk.

For further information on any of the walks, including starting places and car sharing arrangements, please contact the leader of that walk or the club secretary, preferably a few days in advance.

Dogs are, with the exception of registered assistance dogs, in general not permitted on club walks. However, the Club does have walks with dogs and their owners in mind. Please see the programme for details.

Meeting Point

This is either the meeting point for Car Sharing (usually Holywell Community Hospital) or the start point of the walk. Some walks have an additional meeting point for Car Sharing.

It is essential that you contact the leader before the day of the walk if you intend being at either the secondary meeting point or the start of the walk. If insufficient members do not turn up at the main Car Sharing Point then the leader has the right to cancel the walk. If in doubt contact the leader!                                  

Sat 7th April.     Abergwyngregyn – Rachub                              Walk Start: 10.00

We park in the free car park (not the bus stop ) near the Falls Hotel, then make our way via the North Wales Path past Aber Falls . Leaving the N.W.P. we go via Cras along the east side of Moel Wnion .We should be rewarded with excellent views to Anglesey, Menai straits and Snowdonia’s various peaks.  Then it’s over the minor peaks of Gyrn , Llefn and Moel Faban and down into Rachub. From there we catch a bus to Llandygai where we change for the bus back to Aber . It’s then refreshments & delicious cakes in the Falls Hotel .   ( Lawrence will be at Northop )

Sun 22nd April. On the Pilgrims Trail                                         Walk Start  10.30

Start: Go to the crossroads in Melin-y-Wig, park by the notice board if not possible go up road opposite to park on the bend by a footpath sign. This delightful 6.25 mile walk explores a little known area at the southern end of the Vale of Clwyd.  It visits two remote hamlets set in a deep valley on an ancient pilgrims track.  The undulating route follows riverside and field paths, tracks, bridleways and quiet lanes through attractive wooded valleys and includes a visit to a medieval country church.

Sun 29th April   Black Hound and Slippery Witch                      Walk Start: 10.00

We leave the car park at Gwern Gof Isaf and head up the steep road to Ffynnon Llugwy. Then it’s a pleasant scramble, first to Bwlch Eryl Farchog and then the first summit of the day. Pen yr Helig Du (2733 ft.). Pen Llithrig y Wrach (2592 ft.) is our second peak which we reach by traversing over Bwlch y Tri Marchog. We then pick a route down to a mountainside leete which pleasantly reconnects us with our initial ascent route -  great views of Tryfan if the day is fair.

Wed 2nd May.              Flint Mountain                                      Walk Start: 10.00

Starting from the Coach and Horses public house we follow bridleways and fields down to Oakenholt to witness the changing landscape of Flint.  We then return to Flint Mountain via another route to bring us back to our start in time for lunch.  Fairly easy walking but can be muddy in places.  Steady ascent back to Flint Mountain.

Sat 5th May.                  Up and Down the Clwyds                     Walk Start: 9.45

Starting from the Plymog Lay by South of  Llanferres we take a bridleway towards the Clwyds. We then follow the Offa’s Dyke Path for a short distance and then go over Foel Fenlli. After crossing to Moel Famau the return is via tracks and bridleways to the start. There are very few stiles on this walk so it is suitable for dogs on a short lead.

Tues 8th May.                          Hawarden Circular                               Walk Start: 18.50

This is a circular walk starting from Tinkersdale car park, Hawarden.  We go across the golf course with pleasant views across the estuary and to Moel Famau.  We end the walk through Hawarden castle grounds and back into the village were refreshments can be purchased either in Glynne Arms or the Fox and Grape.

Sun 13th May.               Abergele Blue Bell Walk                                   Walk Start: 10.00

Starting from the main entrance to Gwrych Castle this walk takes us through the grounds and to Cefn yr Ogof.  After exploring the summit ridge we cross over  to Rhyd y Foel. This is an ancient Hill Fort. From here we cross the Afon Dulas towards Llysfaen. Our route then takes us over Craig y Forwyn and down to Llanddulas.  From here we catch the bus back to the start.

Sat 19th May.                Glyder Fawr via Seniors Ridge.                        Walk Start  10.00

Starting from the car park at Ogwen Cottage, we follow the path round the east side of Llyn Idwal and then walk up a rocky path that takes us over Seniors Ridge to the summit plateau of Glyder Fawr. We then drop down to Llyn y Cwm, up to Y Garn and across to Foel Goch. From here we take a path that descends into Cwm Cywion and back to the start. Dogs welcome.

Sat 26th May.                Conwy to Rowen                                             Walk Start  12.00

We meet and park in the free parking area on the right as you enter the village of Rowen in time to catch the number 19 bus at 11.39 from Rowen to Conwy .  The walk takes us over Conwy mountain using the North Wales Path as far as Penysychnant . We then follow moorland tracks via Craigyfedwen to the old church of St .Celynin . Then it’s the Pilgrims’s Way down to Rowen, where refreshments should be available in the Ty Gwyn hotel and /or tea rooms.  ( Lawrence will be starting from Northop ).  Dogs welcome if they’re OK on the bus.

Sun 3rd June.               A ramble around Delemere                               Walk Start  10.00

Starting from the car park in the forest known as Barns Bridge Gates on Delemere Lane this is an easy walk with just one short climb to the viewing point at Pale Heights.  New routes, through the forest guaranteed, some muddy bits a possibility, Iron Age hill forts to admire and a visit to the Goshawk pub for refreshments afterwards.  This is a dog friendly walk and dogs are welcome.

Sat 9th June.                Llandegla Forest & World’s End.                      Walk Start: 9.45

This walk starts in the public car park in the village of Llandegla.  We immediately pick up the Offa’s Dyke Path heading South East.  Through Llandegla Forest we cross open moorland to walk down the single track road to World’s End.  From here we follow the path along the escarpment as far south as Plas Eglwyseg before turning north again on the Clwydian Way. The return leg is via open moorland and fields.  Weather permitting some good views on offer.  The ascents are long and gradual and at 13 miles this a good hike on a long summer’s day.  Dogs are welcome.

Sun 17th June.             Breidden Hills                                                  Walk Start 10.00 

The Breidden Hills are not very high but rise steeply from the Severn Valley so a tough day is guaranteed.  We start our up and down day at Criggion and make our undulating way to Middletown Hill, our first summit of the day.  Then it is along the ridge to Moel y Golfa at 1,322 feet our highest point. We head homewards via the impressive Rodneys Pillar atop our third summit of the day before descending back to Criggion in search of tea and cakes.

Tues 19th June.            Mynydd Hirathug at Sunset                              Walk Start: 19.30

From the Car Park in Thomas Street Dyserth the route takes us first to Tre Castell then to Marian Mills. From here we briefly follow the Offa’s Dyke Path towards Mynydd Hirathug. From the summit wide views and a glorious sunset can be expected.  The walk finishes by taking a path through the woodland back to the start.

Sat 23rd June.                           Tegid Way                                            Walk Start  10.15

We meet at the free pavilion car park off the A5 London Road, Corwen ( turn in between old chapel –now Corwen Museum-& Canolfan Ni opposite Corwen Manor Candles Craft shop & Café)  in time to catch the 0955 T3 Traws Cymru  bus service to Llandrillo .  After a steep start, the Tegid Way then follows a broad track through open moorland below the Berwyns with fine views across the Dee valley to the distant hills. The gentle descent again offers good views as we make our way to Cynwyd . From there, it’s an easy 2 mile flat walk through fields beside the River Dee and along the disused rail track back to Corwen.  Refreshments of various descriptions should be available if required in Corwen .

We start from Pont Abercaseg in Bethesda. Turn off the A5 onto Braichmelyn then left just after the bridge into Abercaseg and park on the road or in the car park a bit further down. We start by walking up to Gyrn Wigiau and Yr Aryg, then across to Carnedd Gwenllian, Foel Grach, Carnedd Llewelyn and over to Carnedd Dafydd. From here we walk down Mynydd Du back to the start. Dogs welcome.

From the car park at Brookhouse Mill, Denbigh we follow a footpath alongside a stream to the River Clwyd. We walk along the river bank to Lleweni. This is a Listed Building with an interesting history.  We then follow one of the access roads back to the start.

Sat 7th July.                              Christleton Take 2                                Walk Start  10.00

This is the second attempt to do this walk after the snow forced the postponement last December.  Starting from the small car park past the church and the pond we head out across fields towards the Roman bridges over the river Gowy.  We then cross fields and eventually join the canal back to Christleton.  Level walking on by-roads, fields and a towpath.

Tues 10th July.             A circular walk around Lixym                           Walk Start: 19.30

This is a circular walk around the village of Lixym.  The walk starts and ends at The Crown public house on the main road through the village.  The route will take us through the fields and lanes surrounding the village.  It should be a very pleasant stroll on a summer evening.

Sat 14th July.                Moel Famau from Loggerheads                        Walk Start  9.50

We start along the Leete, then cut across up fields and then lane, before a linking path to the shoulder of Moel Famau.  Up to the summit, and descent back to Loggerheads, refreshments in Café Florence or the Pub. It is a fair climb, but steady and not too steep. Great views throughout.  Start point outside Café Florence.  Dogs particularly welcome!

The walk starts from the small car park at Hesp Alyn. A pleasant walk with some good view points. We start along the leete, skirt the top of Loggerheads Country Park, then head towards Mold. The return route skirts Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn.

Sat 28th July                 Llanfairfechan to Tal-y-Bont                             Walk Start: 10.00

Parking is opposite Aberconwy School on Morfa Road, off the A547. We catch the first available  bus to Llanfairfechan ( buses every 15 minutes). We then make our way through the village and take the valley road to moorland and open access land leading to Bwlch y Ddeufaen . It’s then up to Drum via Carnedd y Ddelw . From Drum we descend Foel Lwyd to traverse Pen y Castell and Penygadair to a small parking area. From there it is down lanes to Tal-y-Bont where we catch a bus back to Conwy. ( Lawrence will be starting from Northop )

Wed 1st Aug.                Gwespyr and the coastal path.                         Walk Start  10.00

From the CP we walk  towards the village of Gronant. We then cross over parkland to Gwespyr, From here we take a footpath used by colliers to get to Point of Ayr Colliery. After viewing the various sculptures we continue along the Coast Path to the Lighthouse. The return is through the dunes back to through Tyn y Morfa to the start.

Starting from the parking area opposite the Ponderosa we head west past the Moel y Faen quarry then contour around Moel Y Gamelin and head up to the cain.  Walking past another quarry, Berwyn quarry, we then make our way south to Llandynan then take a northerly route past Oernant and the Horseshoe Pass back to the start.  Dogs are welcome.

We start at Aber for this excursion into the northern Carneddau, scrambling up past the Aber Falls and then crossing the Afon Goch where we can to attain the rocky summit of Bera Mawr (2605 ft.) We then make the short traverse to the equally rocky – and ironically higher – top of Bera Bach (2648 ft). We descend over the rounded shoulder of Drosgl (2487 ft.) with fine views of Ynys Mon and the Creuddyn Peninsula, eventually reaching the foot of Aber Falls and a gentle return to the cars.

We start on the Clwydian way and cross Llantysilio Mountain at Bwlch Groes before dropping down into the Dee Valley again. We return to Carrog along the Dee Valley way. Note - there is one section of rough ground where the path is indistinct.   Also, there is limited parking at the meet/start point so please car share as much as possible.
